Hi,
My USB (wireless / RF) MCE keyboard works fine and can "affect" the desktop. I am far from a developer, but couldn't the same approach be taken as an RF keyboard? I did some google searches for (Vista "Allow service to interact with desktop") and here are some results:

I would think that this is going to be more of a problem in the future as more and more folks move to Vista and or it's successors.

Thanks for your attention.
Randy

These devices use a (Lowlevel) Device driver, however we cannot use that approach.

The problem is no Vista problem but a Vista x64 problem....

Currently we cannot fix that.

Hi,

Some of the links I gave you also spoke of using an IPC between the service and a process running in the context of the first logged on user. Would that work? Also, it is my understanding from reading the URL's that the results should be the same in Vista x32. I haven't tried that and really do not want to go back to a 32 bit OS.

I really like your product. However, I may have to replace it if I cannot get it to work with Vista x64. It is in my D-Vine MCE303 case.

Thanks
Randy

Currently there are no plans to change that.

As far as we know the irtrans service works on Vista x86.

Please note that we cannot develop any SW specific for OEM devices that we neither sell nor manufacture.

Can owners of OrigenAE S series cases (having a VF210 board) use the last IRTrans software (with "run as a service" support) or do we have to wait for a release from OrigenAE?

Thanks!

Our lastest research has shown that interaction of services with the desktop is generally not possible on Vista (x86 and x64).

Ask Microsoft why - and ask them why the checkbox to allow that is still there anyway :?:

There is nothing we can do about that and nothing we can do to fix or work around that issue.

sorry, but that statement ist definitely wrong.

I'm not a developer but I have a Philips SRM 7500 remote too for my second mediacenter and the Philips software runs as a service on Vista32 and controls my VMC without problems.

so this should be possible for irtrans too. Maybe not with your current software architecture but if you want to sell stuff in the future you may need to change your software to that direction.

I never wrote that it is not possible to use a remote control on Vista - the problem is, that it is not possible to use a service for that.

However, nobody NEEDS to use it as as service. Starting the SW as a service is an additional option we added, however it seems that it is not possible on Vista.

The MS MCE receiver does not run as a service - it is using a low level device driver.

The IRTrans system does a lot more than the MS MCE Receiver (IR Sending, IR Control, Display Driver, control via TCP/IP ...) that is not possible using a device driver only.

Hi, I' reopening to thread to ask simple question : when modifying apps.conf, do we need to stop & start the service to aplly the changes or do we need to fully restart windows ?
