which module to purchase

Postby rickg » Tue 30. Dec 2008, 19:31

I'm not sure which module I should purchase. Initially, I was looking at setting up a global cache which looks to be way less expensive... but I think a complete existing solution may be better, so I'm looking to use ired and IRTrans.Since my mac and my home theater are in different rooms, I think LAN is the way to go, especially with the new iphone app, but which one? I'd love to plug the module into an airport express near my equipment, which I use for iTunes streaming already. Should I go with the IRT-POE-MAC? (not sure what the "HFMAC" model is for)

I'm much more of a scripter/coder than a hardware/network guy so advice on which one to use for controlling a home theater would be appreciated.

The equipment:
Sony projector
rotel AV receiver, second zone amp, cd player
PS3 (using BT2IR)
motorola cable box
elite projection screen

thank in advance

Hi Rick,
the IRTrans LAN Mac device will be the right device for you.
You can connect it to your Airport Express.

PoE will not help you as the Airport Express does not support PoE.

In addition you will need a power supply.

This setup will support iRed on the Mac as well as iRed Touch for iPhone / iPod touch.

You will also be able to use Apple script for automation tasks.
